February 7th, 2012
Join us on February 28th as we welcome our special guest, Sam Gardner and Patricia Mathis, as our speakers for the evening!
Sam Gardner will begin with a program on building art into your photographs and how to work with clients for posing them in the most flattering and fun styles. This is an illustrated talk with some brief demonstration time. The program is called Vitasculptore Illuminare…(sculpting life with light), and takes a look at how to incorporate techniques that painters and sculptors have used for centuries. This program will change the way you look at lighting and photography!
Patricia Mathis will share some of her post-production techniques using Photoshop and NIK software to bring the images to final stages. Her techniques are based upon the fact that she and Sam have captured great files that are exposed well to start with so she can enhance rather than repair images. This eye on the final product throughout your sessions can greatly improve the number of “good ones” and eliminate a huge amount of editing time for you. The result is a more efficient session, which the clients appreciate, and a more efficient editing and finalizing session, which YOU should appreciate… You will make more money in less time, have more fun, create more artistic images to appeal to your client’s hearts, and touch their lives in ways you didn’t think were possible.
Social time will begin at 6:30pm and the meeting will begin approximately 7:00pm at the Ramada Inn Mandarin (I295 & San Jose Blvd). Don’t forget your entry for Peoples’ Choice! Please join us at Chili’s on San Jose after the meeting!
Guests are welcome! If you have not attended a Jacksonville Professional Photographers Group meeting before, you are welcome to attend your first meeting complementary! We hope you’ll join us!

The menu can best be described as ‘contemporary’ Italian. Many dishes will not be what you think of as ‘traditional’ Italian, and only a couple will be pasta dishes. You can be sure this is not a ’spaghetti & garlic bread’ kind of meal or restaurant!
Here are a few of our menu selections:
- Carving station with Roast Beef & Pork
- Rosemary herbed potatoes
- Sautéed Shrimp
- Eggplant Parmesan
- antipasto dishes
- Homemade bread
- Homemade dessert & pastry bar (including that yummy cheesecake that you sampled at our November meeting)
This year we are bringing back the tradition of FREE Door Prizes! That’s right……. everyone that attends (including guests) will receive a complimentary Door Prize ticket. Be ready… your 2011 Banquet Committee is putting together some very cool prizes!

Please join us in welcoming Gary Hughes to Jacksonville for our November 15th meeting! Yes, we’re 1 week earlier due to the Thanksgiving Holiday the following week. Get ready to get social as Gary presents:
“Nerd Wars: Using Social Networking and the Internet to Increase Profits”
Every photographer hears people talking about how important blogging, Facebook and Twitter are for your business, but does anyone really know how to make sense of it? Is it worth the time? This program will give you practical and easy-to-use solutions that will help you increase business and profits immediately. Bring a notepad and a sense of humor, this could change the way you see marketing. The non-techy and the techy alike will learn some simple ideas that will help you make sense of social media and the internet in order to increase profits.
Bio:
Gary’s photography career began while working as an assistant in his family’s studio. By the time college came, he was out the door. After graduating from UF and having every job from musician to construction worker, he began to pursue a career in the I.T. field by becoming a Microsoft Certified technician and networking nerd. In 2006, despite his attempts to avoid it his entire life, he discovered photography and began to learn by seeking out mentors and joining the FPP and the PPA.
Since then he has applied himself full time to photography earning various awards and merits including images accepted in to the PPA Loan and Showcase Collections. In 2010 he competed at FPP convention for the first time and won a first place award for his portraiture as well as being named one of the Top Ten Photographers in Central Florida by the PPSCF. In 2011 he had 2 entries accepted in to the PPA Loan Collection and earned enough merits for his Master of Photography degree from PPA. He has taught various programs all over the south east in order to help photographers increase profits by taking their business and marketing online, develop multiple income sources by diversifying and improve their work with creative lighting and posing techniques to set their images apart from the crowd.
Social time will begin at 6:30pm and the meeting will begin approximately 7:00pm at the Ramada Inn Mandarin (I295 & San Jose Blvd). Don’t forget your entry for Peoples’ Choice! Please join us at Chili’s on San Jose after the meeting!

September 27th, 2011
We just spoke to MJ, our much esteemed and often appreciated salon chairman, to get information about our October meeting. We luckily caught him just in time before another one of his road trips. We knew there would be a meeting…we knew it would be all about what we call Salon…which can also be understood to be a kind of image education night. We also knew it would take place at our usual spot at the Ramada with a moderator and 3 guest judges from around the state. In fact, most members and guests usually start arriving as early as 6 PM and socialize until we start at 7 PM sharp! And, as always, there will be no People’s Choice on the same night as Salon.
But what we did not know, was if there were going to be any changes from the ordinary… any unexpected, interesting twists in store for the big night! Sometimes a little change can be acceptable. So, here’s what we found out…
The entire meeting is being moved to MONDAY night October 24th!
Just one night earlier!
Same time, location, and everything… just one night earlier!
(deadline to e-mail MJ your entries is 24 hours before the meeting!)
Salon rules will be posted very soon!
Why the change? “We’ve got our reasons”, he said with a grin. So, as the explanation unfolded, it made perfect sense… one of our judges will be staying over, right here in Jax, in order to put on one of his newest programs in his “BRIANized” Series. YES! Brian Idocks will be here again with his latest program. He was here almost 2 years ago with a different program and was very well received.
You’ll love his style, you’ll love his delivery, and you’ll really love the price of admission! Don’t miss Salon on Monday… and don’t miss the Tuesday follow-up with Brian Idocks!
BRIANized… with Brian Idocks on TUESDAY the 25th!
Take the afternoon class… or just take the evening deal… Or why not just take both? If you take both we’ll knock $5.00 off admission!
- An Afternoon Shoot with Brian at Susan Michal’s Studio from 2 – 5 PM
- An Evening session covering his latest Photoshop & Post Production Tips held at Desktop Darkroom from 7:00 – 9:30 PM
PRICE?
- Afternoon Class just $20 for members, $30 for non-members!
- Evening Class just $20 for members, $30 for non-members
- Just do both sessions…it’s a “no-brainer” to get BRIANized! Take both & we’ll knock $5.00 off admission!
From 5-7 we’ll stop over at our Chili’s just down from Ramada, then head over to Desktop for Brian’s second program. (Dinner not included in price of seminars)
